I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for that day when we will see Jesus face to face. I can’t imagine what it will be like to feel his comforting arms wrapped around me. To feel his love and affirmation that a life poured out in ministry was worth every drop. To bow before him in worship, and to see the marks of the cross.
The disciple Thomas had poured 3 years of his life into following Jesus Christ and His teachings. When Jesus died on the cross it left the disciples in fear and desperation. Thomas replied; “Unless I see the marks in His hands, and thrust my hand into His side, I will never believe.” Thomas longed to see Jesus, not just to prove it had all been worth it, not just to know Jesus really was who He said He was, but because He loved Jesus.
The resurrected Jesus invited Thomas to see and
feel the marks of the cross. Thomas’s response revealed that Jesus was worth it “My Lord/ Master”, and Jesus was who He said “My God”. You may know the bible stories, you may occupy a seat on Sunday morning, but do you know Jesus? Do you love Him and long to see Him?
“…We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.…” (I John 3:2&3)
Moses loved God and longed to see His presence. God granted this request and just a small glimpse made his face glow to the point he had to wear a veil.
Just as much as I long to see Jesus some day, I also long to show Jesus to the world around me right now. Like, the disciples there are millions of people drowning in fear and desperation who need to see Jesus. I (You) may be the only glimpse of Jesus they ever see!
