The Key To Effective Prayer

Why hasn’t God answered my prayer?  This is not what i was praying for!  Doesn’t God care about what i am going through?  I keep praying about it but I am still not sure what to do!  We have all felt or thought this way at times and believe the answer is this.

(1 John 5:13-15) “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.download

First…recognize this verse holds true for those who “believe in the name of the Son of God”.  If you do…we can be confident that;

  1. We Have Eternal Life
  2. He Hear Us
  3. God Answers our Request

Second…recognize that our confidence that He will hear and answer our request is based upon the request being according to His Will.

Conclusion: Just as in the Lord’s prayer “thy kingdom come, thy will be done we are taught by Jesus to pray not for our desires primarily but for God’s will (His sovereign Best) to be done in our lives.  His wisdom is greater than ours and He can always see what is best.  Maybe what is best for us is to endure hardship.  My nephew had a fierce battle with Lukemia that could have taken His life.  My brother has said that this was God’s best for them and His son accepted Christ and was baptized as a result of going through this difficulty.  Our confidence is that He will hear us and answer our prayer in the way that He knows is best for His glory and for our growth…  This does not always come in the way we expect.

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose

What is at the heart of God’s will and purpose?  1 Timothy 2:4 “He desires all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth”

Pray for people to get saved…Pray for your children to know and “walk in the truth”…Pray scripture like; God help me “love your wife the way Christ loves the church” and help me “love your neighbor as yourself”…Pray that he will help you “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”…Pray that in sickness or  difficulty you might “fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”

I don’t know about you but I would like to spend more time praying about God’s will and less about my selfish desires, goals, or worries.
